Graduate's point of view

Anatoly Bakharev“I started to my job search immediately after graduation by sending my CV to potential employers. My working career began in 2006 when Konepaja ASTEX Gear Oy employed me as a CNC -operator. A few years later I was promoted to production manager and therefore I’m quite satisfied with my career so far. Konepaja ASTEX Gear Oy is a metal workshop focused on CNC turning and milling.

My tasks include shift leadership, such as arranging the work, giving technical advice, overseeing quality and tooling control, and answering organizational and personal questions. My duties also include control of orders, interpreting (English–Finnish–Russian) and Russian customer support. In this position I can successfully combine my engineering and management skills. The most fascinating part of my work is that I’m able to do something real and I feel I am in the right place.

In my opinion, the most challenging aspect in management work is the constant problem solving, especially managing personnel questions. If everything is going well, nobody bothers me. The workers are always trustful that I will help them and I try to not disappoint them.

I’ve received a very good education. I graduated from the Saimaa University of Applied Sciences in 2005. In addition to that, I obtained a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT). So, my brains are full of engineering knowledge. Every day I use the knowledge that I got at Saimaa UAS. It has helped me to reach the management level.

A lot of people say that your time as a student is the best time of your life. I agree with that. The student life: you are independent, but yet with a minimum of adult responsibilities. It is a necessary experience in everyone’s growing-up process. My memories about that part of my life are only positive. I made good friends and met a lot of interesting people during my studies.

In the future, I want to achieve further career growth in my present work, learn Finnish, obtain Finnish citizenship and live my nice and quiet life in Lappeenranta. I’m also interested in teaching students at Saimaa University of Applied Sciences or Lappeenranta University of Technology.“
