“I am studying in the Degree Programme in Mechanical Engineering and Production Technology. I chose the Saimaa University of Applied Sciences because it answered quite well to my needs. Mechanical engineering, machine design and how different mechanisms work have interested me throughout my life. I found information about Saimaa UAS from my friends who were already studying here. This degree programme fulfilled my needs: good education, intercultural communication and European education.
I like to study in Finland. It is not easy, but also not complicated. For sure, it is necessary to make some effort and spend time doing self-study so that you pass examinations successfully. Lecture materials are always available in Moodle, the online e-learning platform. Besides that, teachers explain everything quite clearly. Most of all, I appreciate the availability of the Finnish education system. In my opinion, there are no big barriers to being admitted to the university if you have the desire to study and spend time in self-studying.
I like that we study only courses that we need in our future work. But, students also have the opportunity to study some courses from other fields if they want to do so. The Degree Programme in Mechanical Engineering and Production Technology offers two exchange places in Denmark and Germany. I am going to go to Germany as a double degree student. I am very keen on cars: design, manufacturing, alloys used in vehicles, and so on. Italy and Germany are two European countries who have the most developed automotive industry. After graduating from Saimaa UAS, I plan to work in the car industry and technical-construction design. Additionally, I would like to apply for a master’s degree.
I took part in the InnoCity competition last year, and it was a lot of fun and brainstorming. I got very useful skills during the competition. Overall, I have got both important and useful knowledge and experiences from Saimaa UAS. How I spend my free time varies. Sometimes I go to the gym, sometimes I hang out with my friends or go cycling because I like mountain bikes. As well, I can just simply stay at home and do nothing, just watch movies or play games. There are also a lot of parties that are organised almost four or five times a month. At parties you can make a lot of friends.”
