The academic year consists of two terms. The autumn term begins in August and ends a few days before Christmas. The spring term runs from January to May. Intensive teaching, project working or independent studying weeks are from 14 October to 20 October 2013, week 42 and from 24 February to 2 March 2014, week 9.

Students at Saimaa University of Applied Sciences in Imatra will be able to use the services of the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS) from the beginning of January 2013. At present, these services are available only to students of universities of applied sciences in Lappeenranta. The change means all students at Saimaa University of Applied Sciences will have equal opportunities to use the services of FSHS.

Peter Becker from Stone-Ideas.com will lecture about "What the stone can and what it can’t" at an open seminar in Lappeenranta at 15th of November, 2012. The stone branch has many beautiful materials but only a small variety of products. KORU4 International Jewellery Event 2012 continues on 8th of December. KORU4 Exhibition is open at Imatra Art Museum. The theme of KORU4 is Kindred Spirits. Jewellery artists/artist groups are invited from Europe, Usa and New Zeeland to join and to propose an artist or an art piece towards which they have a feeling like "kindred spirit". A kindred spirit is someone who feels and thinks the way you do or a person is similar with thoughts of making art. A kindred spirit might also be an art work the maker feels close to. The studia generalia lecture series Russia, Russia, Russia! organized by the Saimaa University of Applied Sciences (Saimaa UAS) continues in February-April. The first lecture out of three is held on Thursday 7 February 2012 at 6 pm by Ph.D. Sanna Turoma from the Aleksanteri Institute. Ms Turoma will give a lecture on the significance of literature and culture in the former Soviet Union and Russia. In the other lectures, Principal Lecturer Ph.D. Olga Shustrova from the Faculty of Arts at Saint-Petersburg State University discusses the meaning of fine arts and art education from the Soviet-era to present-day Russia. Furthermore, Ms Shustrova will present some of the art museums and galleries in St. Petersburg.
