The Saimaa University of Applied Sciences in Lappeenranta moves to the campus of Skinnarila in fall 2011. After moving Saimaa UAS and the Lappeenranta University of Technology will operate on the same campus. The campus is going to be the biggest in Southeast Finland with almost 8 000 students. At present Saimaa UAS is building a completely new building in Skinnarila. It will be ready at the end of July and university moves in August. Despite the shared campus Saimaa UAS and the Lappeenranta University of Technology remain independent structurally, functionally and ideologically. All operations of the Saimaa University of Applied Sciences will not move to Skinnarila. The education of Tourism and Hospitality, Fine Arts and Process Engineering continues on Imatra campus. The fields of Technology, Business Administration together with Health Care and Social Services move to the new campus. The new building provides students of Health Care and Social Services with modern classrooms. There will also be totally new kind of studying environment, where studies and working life merge. These kind of studying environments are cooperative societies that students have established. Saimaa UAS students of Technology use the same laboratories of mechanical engineering and physics with university students. Studies of Business Administration and Technology and partly of Health Care and Social Services take place in the current premises of university. The Skinnarila campus is situated in the western part of Lappeenranta. It is about seven kilometers from the Lappeenranta city centre and it has a good public transport system. You can see Lake Saimaa straight from the new building of the Saimaa University of Applied Sciences. |
