The Unit of Health Care and Social Services at the Saimaa University of Applied Sciences offers degree programs in Paramedic Nursing, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Public Health Nursing, and Social Services. Basic studies are shared by all the degree programs, and the professional studies are focused on application of theory to practice. State of the art laboratories for use in physiotherapy as well as simulation laboratories for genuine practice of patient care under the guidance of experienced teachers are also used.

The content of courses is developed in cooperation with representatives from work environments in order to better meet the needs of the work community. Practical training at work is achieved through clinical practice placements as well as participation in working life projects.

Internationalization and multiculturalism are important to professionals in health care and social services. While emphasized in the normal curriculum, students have the possibility to complete some of their clinical placements abroad.

Also, some courses in the curriculum that are suitable for exchange students from other countries for example: Asepsis and prevention of infection, Pharmacological Therapy and Medication Calculations, Patient Safety in Nursing, Promotion of Health and Wellbeing, Client-centered Practice in Health Care and Social Services, Multiculturalism in Social Services, Workshops for the Support of Functional Ability, etc.
