Transferring the right to study from another university of applied sciences or univeristy

Transfer students are those who have a valid study right and who have enrolled at Saimaa University of Applied Sciences or another Finnish university of applied sciences. Students at Saimaa University of Applied Sciences are considered to be transfer students if their degree title changes. Apply for a transfer through the Opintopolku system

However, if the degree title of a student at Saimaa University of Applied Sciences does not change, the student is considered to change his or her degree programme. A separate electronic form is used for changing degree programmes.

Eligibility

The transfer can be accepted on the basis of the application if the following general terms of selection are met:

  • the student has a valid study right at a Finnish university of applied sciences, and
  • there is room for the student in the degree programme, and
  • it is possible to draw up a personal study plan for the student for completing the studies before the expiry of the study right, and
  • when required, the applicant attends a personal interview and/or examinations related to the degree programme.

The study right will not be transferred during the term (autumn term, 1 August –  31 December or spring term, 1 January –  31 July) when the student accepted the place of study. The beginning of the following term is the earliest time that studies can begin.

Students applying for transfer must observe that the study right period or student allowance period is not extended due to the transfer. The study right period begins on the date when the student accepted the place of study at their previous university of applied sciences.

Those applying for transfer will be treated equally and subject to consistent selection criteria based on the degree programme. The applicants can be prioritised on the basis of

  • the interview
  • the results of the entrance examination (if any)
  • previous study results
