Saimaa University of Applied Sciences requires new students to have their own laptop computer in use, preferably acquired before studies start. Mobile devices (phone, tablets) are helpful but they may not suffice for all the needs in studies.
The student must register as present or absent at the beginning of every school year. The right to study is held by those students who are enrolled for attendance. Only those students who are enrolled at the University of Applied Sciences (UAS) have the right to participate in studies or sit for examinations for credit.
International activities are considered to be an essential development area at Saimaa University of Applied Sciences, and the range of foreign partners is wide and well-established. Saimaa University of Applied Sciences co-operates with different universities in Russia, Asian countries and Europe in the fields of student, teacher and trainee exchange and different kinds of joint development projects.
Work placement or clinical practice is an integral part of polytechnic studies. The goal of professional practice is to train students in a supervised environment regarding the basic practical aspects of work in their chosen field. One week of supervised training equals 1.5 study credits.
The bachelor’s thesis for the UAS degree is a broad course of study for the preparation of the students in planning and researching areas for development, and working as an expert in their field of study. The extent of study for the bachelor’s thesis is 15 credit points. The scope of the thesis in the degree programme in Construction Management is 10 credits.
The goals of the master´s degree programmes are to develop and demonstrate the student’s ability to apply research to practice, to solve problems in the workplace, and to be experts in the field. The extent of study for the master´s thesis is 30 credit points.
At the end of the studies, you will answer the graduand feedback questionnaire (AVOP) and apply for the degree certificate in writing in this link: Graduand feedback and application for proof of graduating.
The application for proof of graduating has to be done not later than two weeks (in December and May three weeks) before the intended graduation date, on the last application date by 12 p.m.
After completing the AVOP questionnaire, you will be directed to fill the application for proof of graduating. You are also able to take part in a raffle of Apple iPads.
Information on graduand feedback AVOP
The system for student feedback, AVOP, is a joint student feedback system of universities of applied sciences and the Ministry of Education. With the AVOP-inquiry system, real time information is gathered on the employment of the graduated UAS students and on the success of education and work placement in students' opinion. The Ministry of Education takes advantage of the student feedback in evaluating education, comparing univertisities of applied sciences and different fields of education, and in planning education. Universities of applied sciences use the received feedback in developing education and work placement in different fields of education and degrees, and in comparing the results with other universities of applied sciences.
Application for Proof of Graduation
All the studies must be completed before applying. The application for proof of graduating has to be done not later than two weeks (in December and May three weeks) before the intended graduation date, on the last application date by 12 p.m.
If the degree certificate has been lost, stolen or damaged a student may request a certified copy of degree certificate. Please note that there can be only one original degree certificate in existence at any one time. This concerns also if a student has changed his/her name.
The Diploma Supplement is an attachment to the degree certificate intended for international use. Diploma Supplement is designed by the EU, the Council of Europe and UNESCO. It will be given in an Europe widely spoken language.
All students who graduate from Saimaa University of Applied Sciences receive without asking and free of charge as an appendix to their degree certificate a Diploma Supplement, which is an English language account of the university of applied sciences, the degree certificate, the studies listed in it and the study attainments and their level and their status in the educational system. In addition to the Diploma Supplement the graduating student receives an English language translation of the Transcript of Records.
