The hotel and restaurant business is a constantly growing worldwide industry, which needs modern, multicultural, customer-oriented experts with good leadership and project management skills.
The Degree Programme in Tourism and Hospitality Management offers a wide range of studies that prepare students to meet and manage today's clients' high demands for high-class and innovative services. Students will learn how to design hotel, restaurant and touristic services, how to manage a business and how to be a successful leader. Sales and marketing skills are also needed, as well as intercultural communication and versatile language skills.
The courses are carried out using diverse learning methods from lecturers and group works to project-based studies in our own restaurant and in co-operation with local companies. Online learning is also a part of everyday teaching methods.
The education comprises programme-specific basic studies, advanced professional studies, elective studies, a Bachelor's thesis and placement. Studies are carried out entirely in English and they include compulsory period-long studies or placement abroad.
The international mix of the student group means that this aim of internationalisation can be achieved at Imatra, as well as on study and placement abroad. Visiting professors from other universities are also a part of the studies.
To facilitate adaptation to the new learning environment and processes, we will have a consultation with every student about his or her orientation, on the basis of which we make each student a personalised curriculum.
The graduates from the degree programme will work as experts or middle managers in hotel, restaurant and tourist sector. They can be employed on different management, planning and development duties such as reception managers, restaurant managers, hotel sales managers, area managers in restaurant chains or destination developers. However, to be an effective manager, practical, operational expertise is essential. This particular aspect is accomplished through the compulsory placement period.
Non-EU/EEA students are subject to tuition fees. The annual tuition fee for students in Bachelor´s degree programmes is 5 400 e/year. Applying for the 50 % scholarship is possible after the first academic year. To be able to use the given option, you must be able to study full time during the first academic year - meaning, that you must complete a minimum of 55 ECTS credits of studies that are included in your personal study plan.
The degree programme of tourism and hospitality management will be transformed to Lappeenranta, Skinnarila Campus in autumn 2019. Until then, studies continue in Imatra as usual.
