The Duration and extent of studies is 3.5 years, 240 credits.

Study objectives

Degree Programme in Mechanical Engineering and Production Technology prepares students for international mechanical engineering careers, especially in the fields of machine and automation design, production planning, research and development.

Graduates from the programme may work as technological experts, managers, designers, developers and sales engineers in metal and forest industries, automation and information technology.

Study contents

Students learn how to design, develop and manufacture products and mechatronics equipment, design and dimension machine elements, develop modern automation, control and information systems, act as project managers or leaders of individuals and larger teams, communicate, work and negotiate with people having a different cultural and linguistic background.

Bachelor's thesis

The bachelor’s thesis is a broad course of study for the preparation of the students in planning and researching areas for development, and working as an expert in their field of study.

The thesis may be done alone or in a group of students, but if done in a group, each group member must be able to demonstrate their own contribution to the whole for evaluation.

More about the language of instruction

All the studies will be conducted in English. Students may choose a few courses conducted in Finnish.

Co-operation with other parties

Students collaborate with local entrepreneurs in many projects. The thesis can also be done in co-operation with working life.

Saimaa UAS students have also an opportunity to work in projects together with the students of LUT University.

Internationalization

After passing the certain number of credits, students have a possibility to take a student exchange in some of our partner universities abroad. During this period they can complete a double degree

Postgraduate study opportunities

After graduation you may apply to universities Master's Degree programmes (for example to LUT University at the same Skinnarila Campus).

The Degree Programme in Mechanical Engineering and Production Technology is accredited and granted the EUR-ACE Label. The quality label shows that the programme has passed an internationally recognised accreditation in the field of engineering. With EUR-ACE status, this programme qualifies to apply for master degree programmes in European Union.

Research focus

The standing point of the RDI at the Saimaa University of Applied Sciences is to create new lucrative solutions both to everyday life and business.

Tuition fee

Non-EU/EEA students are subject to tuition fees. The annual tuition fee for students in Bachelor´s degree programmes is 5 400 e/year. Applying for the 50 % scholarship is possible after the first academic year. To be able to use the given option, you must be able to study full time during the first academic year - meaning, that you must complete a minimum of 55 ECTS credits of studies that are included in your personal study plan.
