Saimaa University of Applied Sciences has approximately 700 workstations, laptops and tablets, which are available during the opening hours of the university to all students. The use of facilities and devices is restricted for studying purposes.

IT services

The IT Services is responsible for the management of all telephone and information network systems at Saimaa University of Applied Sciences. This includes systems and user rights administration as well as hardware maintenance. There are systems support staff and designers working in each unit and they report to the systems administration manager.

System services

The use of university workstations requires a valid SAIMIA-network user account which is delivered personally to new students. The user account is used for user authentication for systems (Moodle, WinhaWille, Eduroam, library databases etc.) and also allows network printing and limited file storage on the network server.

The degree students of Saimaa University may enable Office 365 account which includes email- and calendar services and a cloud storage. The university may demand to use @student.saimia.fi email for communication.

Students may connect wireless devices to university Eduroam-network with SAIMIA-network account.

Network account permissions will end when the study right expires.

Technical support

The technical support organized by the IT Services works to ensure the flawless functioning of hardware and computer systems. The best way to contact the HelpDesk staff when in difficulty is to use the feedback form, which can be found on the web pages. You can also report failures by e-mail, phone or visiting the HelpDesk personally.

Security

Safe and reliable functionality of the university computers is every user's interest. The computers have up to date software to protect users from security threats in real-time.

Every user is important part of the security chain and users are expected to inform abuse and exceptions to IT support or staff.

Printing and copying

IS&T produces printout and copying services as an aggregate. It acquires the necessary equipment, papers, toners and other materials. You can print documents from all computers and mobile devices.

Follow me printing

Collect your printouts from any multifunction printer.

By connecting your access control key to the printing system either on your own on a multifunction printer or at the Origo service desk, you can collect your printouts from any multifunction printer by swiping your key. If your preferred machine is out of order, there are always others that work.

Follow me printing is secure.

The machine will print your documents only when you want it to, and you can make sure that there are no prying eyes nearby. Follow me printing is ecological. If you print a document by accident, you can leave it in the system and it will delete itself within 12 hours.

Avoid any unnecessary printing.

Scanning and copying

Log in to a multifunction printer with your access control key to scan documents to your e-mail or take regular printed copies.

Students can purchase printing quotas from the Aalef bookstore at the university.
